Wait, Jamaicans have traditions too?
YEP That's right! We aren't the only country with goofy things we do, for god knows whatever reasons. We aren't the only country who puts up tailgate halloween trick or treat get togethers. We aren't the only people who like trucks, hunting, skiing, or whatever it is. Jamaicans have traditions too!!
So let's start with the language traditions. In Jamaica, English is the official language, but they don't speak English a lot. Jamaicans like to speak in a language called "Patois"(Patwa). Generally, when people talk about Jamaican language, they are speaking about "Patwa", so don't think they're talking about English.
Jamaican History? In 1494, Columbus traveled to the caribbean a second time. On the first voyage, he captured Hispaniola, yet the inhabitants of the islands thought he was a friend, a kind visitor. He colonized a small bit of the island and then went home to speak with the Queen and the King. He returned home, and left a few men back to take care of the island, but when he came back, he had full intent to inhabit the island. He learned upon his return to the Caribbean that his men were killed and buried in small graves, yet it didn't keep him from trying to conquer the island. Eventually after a few rulers, Jamaica would be under complete Spanish control, and the original inhabitants were replaced with slaves. Thus, the Maroons were born. They were rebels against the slave trade, and in 1962, after slavery had been abolished by the Maroons, Jamaica had claimed independence.
On Jamaican independence day, Jamaicans everywhere celebrate their government, beliefs, principles, traditions, and their beautiful island. They also celebrate their excellence in sports, education, business, ect. They worked together as a people and got their island to what it is now, and now they are proud to bear the name Jamaica. They have cultural dances, dresses, music, food, and drink for this celebration.
Jamaican sports include Track and Field, Football, and Cricket. Those are the top 3 sports that Jamaicans are known for, and they sure don't take them lightly.
Jamaicans usually listen to reggae music, and also they eat many tropical foods. They love their foods, and they love cooking and eating foods. (I'm sure I would get along great there!) Jamaica is a very laid back place which is surely the place to be when you are flooded with stress!!

Here's Jamaican sprint training, and as you can see, it surely is not something they take lightly. Look at how fast he runs, and notice the techniques he practices.
Traditions, traditions, traditions... What are traditions? Traditions are a people's way of keeping bonded to each other, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Well why did I choose Jamaican traditions? Why wouldn't I? I think it's interesting to know how different cultures interact, and how they treat each other. Holidays, marriage rituals, funerals, birthing, celebrations, everything fascinates me. So with the traditions being this important to me, I decided to portray it in a list of the different traditions, and how they lived. I also included a video of how not lightly they take their traditions. Traditions are traditions, and they intend on keeping their tradition of winning!!;) I thought this would be a creative way to show their traditions because it would put you in the shoes of a Jamaican man or woman just being invited to a birthday or wedding.
