Religion
Here's a rough estimate of religions in Jamaica. Religion plays a huge role in the Jamaican life-style, whether it influences food, art, clothing, or even language. Jamaica has a huge religious diversity, which brings the culture-rich island close together and also can have conflicts with each other. There is a lot of Christianity in Jamaica, and Jamaica first encountered Christianity through Roman Catholicism. This was brought in by the Spanish settlers who came to the island in 1504. When Jamaica was captured by the British in 1655, the Anglican church became the state church. There are also the minor cults which worship African traditions. The "Rastafarian" beliefs are that the Messiah is Haile Selassie, who was the last emperor of Ethiopia. They also believe that in being intoxicated by Alcohol, they are being possessed by Dionysius, the god of wine and revelry. They also believe that in smoking "The holy herb" they become one with the holy spirit.
I chose to do a descriptive paragraph for Religion because I wanted to do a graph for the different religions to start with. After I got the graph in, I saw that I needed something to describe it and explain the importance of the different parts, therefore I chose to do a descriptive paragraph. I did research on the different religions, and their influences on Jamaican culture and came up with this information. I used the descriptive paragraph oppose to any other method because the paragraph relates directly to the graph and helps interpret the graph a little better. It helps you understand where the religions came from, and is right next to the graph and easy to understand.
