Ho, Ho, Ho?
Hey me! If you're reading this then you reached the age of 45! I'm 15 right now and I'm writing a letter to you(me) and I wanted to see if I got any different as I grow older so yeah here we go dude! So, it's Christmas future me! I didn't participate in the parade last year because I wasn't really feeling it. This year I'm pumped and ready to go! I get to enjoy all of the celebrations, treats, entertainment, and parties! We may not have snow or reindeer, it's a little warm for that, but we do have the Christmas spirit! This year Santa Claus is coming around and I've been a good boy! I asked him for a good family celebration, because nothing is more important than time with my family and friends! Then again, I LOVE our family time! Family is more important than anything!! But anyways, for the parade, I'm gonna probably be a devil. I know I have options, like the horned cow head, policeman, wild Indian, belly-woman(of course:D), pitchy-patchy, bride, house head, and horse head but I'm feeling devil at the moment. We also have the record with the longest running tradition of Jonkanoo which is cool!! I didn't know that and I live here. Also note to self: Jonkanoo is the mysterious band people with their big costumes. That's super entertaining, and I hope it will be so when I'm older. I did a little research on Jonkanoo and aparantly it's been going on for 30 or so years! Surely it was much popular back then, but the fact we still do it is cool. I went to the grand market, which was that place where I get food, watch street dancers, buy crafts, and listen to live music! On the weekend before christmas, as always, I walked around seeing all the vendors selling the toys and stuff.. I bought a pinda cake! And then on Christmas eve, I was walking through the market place, and they decorated it with streamers, bells, and balloons! It was AWESOME!!! Everyone was all dressed up in fancy clothes and cool hats though, I wish I could have bought something. I want to see if Christmas stays the same when I'm older so, Christmas season runs from the middle of December to New years. New years is gonna be a big family event just like last year, I can feel it. We have some plans- Going to church, playing secret santa, and having a huge meal! We will have chicken, oxtail, curry goat, roast ham, rice, and gungo peas!! It's gonna be a blast!! Anyways I can smell something cooking, so see you later future me!
So, What the heck did I just do?
I wrote a letter to myself. I put myself in the shoes of a young jamaican teenager, and wrote to myself like a time capsule sort of deal. I wrote to see if christmas would change over the years, if traditions would change, and just from that curious teenager's point of view. I wanted to do this because I figured it would be different and unique. I also wonder if anyone really does write letters to themselves. I chose to do the holidays because I'm a big christmas fan. I really enjoy the season of giving because it's just a generous time of giving and I feel like everyone is just so kind to eachother.
